The Raiders are on the clock with the first pick. Here's my thinking about the first pick. It looks like they will pick Russell. If the Raiders want to win NEXT YEAR, they should draft Brady Quinn. Russell is just not ready for an NFL-type system, and there's no way Andrew Walter or Josh Booty will start the season. So they obviously are not going to win next year. That's why would draft Calvin Johnson, tank next season, and pick up a good quarterback next year.

But Roger Goodell has just announced the first pick, and it's Russell! It will be interesting how long it takes him to mature.

They showed a clip of Russell throwing it 60 yards from a knee. You know who else wowed scouts with that same trick? Kyle Boller. Right.

Russell is in all black. Think he knew what was coming today? The fans seem receptive, and I think they will like him in Oakland.

The Lions are on the clock.
What they should do: trade down, way down if possible. There's a good crop of first-round DE's, and that's what they need.
What they will do: switch picks with the Bucs, and pick up Gaines Adams at No. 4. But I think that is a reach for Gaines.

But they just flashed back to the green room, and Calvin Johnson is hysterical! Did the Lions pick Johnson? That's not smart. There are a lot of good young receivers in the first two rounds, and WR is not their biggest position of need. Keyshawn Johnson (an analyst today) said that Detroit could pick up Johnson, Tampa could pick up Adams, and they would swap.

Keyshawn, by the way, is doing a great job as an analyst.
